Gourmet coffee - the right way to drink
Posted Saturday, April 29, 2006 10:39:55 AM by Kate Grant

Who wouldn't like to drink gourmet coffee? You'll be surprised, but most people prefer the instant coffee brand they're used to, over specialty gourmet coffee, or even gourmet flavored coffee.

CoffeeIf you want to expose those people to fresh gourmet coffee (I'm sure you know a few) the best way is to give them a gourmet coffee basket as a gift, or enroll them in a gourmet coffee club, where they'll be able to taste different brands of gourmet coffee from different companies, buy premium coffee beans to roast and grind at home, and enjoy the best gourmet coffee in general.

A gift basket for coffee lovers can be purchased at a gourmet coffee shop, and is sure to be appreciated by them. You can by those gifts premade, or crate your own. Begin with choosing the basket or chest, and from there on, the sky is the limit...

Gourmet coffee from just about any of the great coffee makers, like Godiva, Starbucks, Coffee Masters, and Gevalia, gourmet cookies and biscuits, biscotti, if you like to dip them in your coffee, and even scones and cheesecakes.

You can add nice mugs, spoons and even a coffee maker. There will be no end to their happiness.

True Gourmet Coffee Lovers Should Put Aside Jamaican Blue Mountain ...
Posted Saturday, February 10, 2007 12:49:25 PM by Blog57 Team
Gourmet coffee lovers often conclude that Jamaican Blue Mountain is the rarest coffee in the world. There is another variety that's much rarer--and produced in the United States--it's "Moka Maui" coffee. In fact, 74 times as much Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is produced, compared to Moka Maui. Armeno Coffee Roasters is offering free shipping on orders of this rare coffee. For decades, American coffee lovers have been led to believe that Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee was the rarest. It turns out that a much rarer coffee is right within the 50 states--and it isn't Hawaiian Kona coffee. Armeno Coffee Roasters is the first gourmet coffee roaster to bring this exclusive coffee to the mainland U.S. It's called "Maui Moka". John Parks, Co-Owner of Armeno, explains: "There's only one pound of Maui Moka produced for every 74 pounds of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee, yet gourmet coffee drinkers mistakenly regard Blue Mountain as the rarest coffee." One of the reasons for the scarcity of Maui Moka is the size of its bean....

Everyday Gourmet to become Picholine

ASHEVILLE - Everyday Gourmet is getting a makeover. The Haywood Street caf and coffee house will be closed tomorrow and open on a limited basis for a few to-go items this coming week as owners Treavis and Traci Taylor of Fig prepare to re-launch the establishment as the more wide-ranging Picholine. It will have more of a cosmopolitan feel, Treavis Taylor said about the new incarnation, which takes its name from an olive variety. Its a place to come after work to enjoy small bites. Fig sous-chef Joshua Lawton will take over the kitchen, preparing eggs all day as well as tapas and other appetizers in the evening. The format is still evolving, Taylor said, but the hours will expand and beer and wine will be offered. It will be very affordable, he said. The Taylors will continue to offer their Everyday Gourmet catering service from its existing North Asheville kitchen....

Folgers Raising Coffee Prices

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co (PG) raised prices of Folgers' ground coffee and also its gourmet coffee line, effective Wednesday, reflecting higher arabica prices in recent months, a company spokesman said. Folgers hiked its ground coffee price by 10 cents per 11.5-to-13-ounce can or about 4%. The company raised its gourmet-line or higher-end coffee by 20 cents per 11.5% ounce or 5%. Increases were attributed to "a sustained rise in green coffee prices in the arabica market," company spokesman Lars Atorf said. Folgers last raised prices in October, and at that time cited higher robusta coffee prices. Folgers uses robusta beans from Asia and Brazil in its arabica blends, and uses nearly 100% robustas in its instant coffee....

When Dan McMahon first opened the doors of his Eastport coffee shop a year ago, there was no doubt in his mind that he'd take the local path - serving and selling only locally roasted coffees. From there Ahh, Coffee! took off, using local equipment suppliers, serving pastries from local bakers and even displaying art from Eastport artists. Mr. McMahon's is one of a number of local coffee shops bucking the bigger coffee giants and going with the little guys like the Chesapeake Bay Roasting Co., Caffe Pronto and Cosmic Bean. "It was all part of the concept I was trying to create," Mr. McMahon said. "It was only appropriate and natural - that's been my absolute best source of business and I wouldn't have it any other way." And for businesses like Chesapeake Bay Roasting, based in Crofton, it's about more than just selling coffee, it's about giving back to the community and the environment, said Rick Erber, a partner in the company....

More and more young adults are saddled with student loans and credit-card debt as they start their careers, experts say. To help young adults age 25 to 34 navigate these critical years, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Advertising Council have teamed up to create a new educational campaign titled Feed the Pig. The Texas Society of CPAs, which has a chapter in El Paso, is a partner in the multimedia campaign, which will feature promotional spots on television, radio, the print media and billboards, said Sarah Seals, spokeswoman for the Texas CPA group. The idea is to help this demographic group get through a crucial juncture in their lives and encourage them to save, said Jerry Love, an Abilene CPA and chairman of the Texas Society of CPAs. "They're beginning to have careers, have kids and buy homes," Love said....

Estimates by the National Institute of Health show that approximately 40 million Americans suffer from heartburn, acid reflux, GERD or other acid-induced stomach ailments. Beverages like coffee and orange juice are among the leading culprits when it comes to causes for these symptoms. It used to be that these consumers would be asked to significantly reduce, or give up entirely, drinking coffee by their family doctor or gastroenterologist....
