| How about a nice coffee table book to put on your coffee table? | | Posted Thursday, February 09, 2006 11:10:30 AM by Kate Grant | If a coffee table was originally designed for drinking coffee around it, than today it is something entirely different. We may still sit in our living room and enjoy a cup of coffee, but this is no longer just the place you put you coffee cup on. Coffee table design has developed with the years and with the changing needs of families today.
A coffee table is no longer just a square or round piece of wood with three or four legs. Modern and contemporary coffee tables are sometimes nothing more than a large ottoman padded with material or linen.
We suggest you place a large tray on such a coffee table, otherwise disaster might strike, and these tables are not very steady... There's something for everyone, when it comes to coffee tables.
You can find glass coffee tables, metal coffee tables, unique hand made coffee tables or even coffee tables made of oak wood, or coffee tables made by apothecary, if "old school" design is more to your liking.
Personally, I prefer a coffee table with some storage space. There's always a place to put all those Sunday papers you never got a chance to read.

| | | Wyndham Miami Beach Resort | | Posted Tuesday, February 06, 2007 12:48:53 PM by Blog57 Team | | First impressions are so important for a hotel guest's stay. Ironically when one thing goes wrong early on inevitably a guest's stay jsut tends to go from bad to worse. Just about every hotelier will tell you this, its almost a feat of nature. My stay at the Wyndham on Miami Beach started out on the wrong foot, and it was always going to be interesting to see whether 'nature' was going to take its course. Driving up to the hotel and stopping at the entrance I was approached by an attendant who informed me all parking in the hotel was valet parking, and he would have to take the car. This is not unusual along the Miami Beach strip as much of the hotels' parking is off-site. After unloading the luggage myself (there was no alternative offered) I then received a ticket and pointed in the direction of the registration desk in the lobby.... | |

| | | Kosher kugel-maker getting handiwork on tables everywhere | | Posted Friday, January 26, 2007 2:51:10 PM by Blog57 Team | | To look at Jennifer Schillings kugels, neatly packaged in little plastic trays, one would never guess each weighs a ton. Thats because a Schilling kosher kugel is as dense as neutron star, filled with roasted carrots, cherries and pineapple, or raisins and walnuts, perhaps lemon ricotta or maybe caramel apple. Schilling counts on the dominant kugel gene found in Jewish DNA to carry her business to great heights. She launched her company, My Bubbes Table, last year and now shes actively marketing her line of kugels and MochiCake dessert squares to stores like Whole Foods, Martha & Bros. and Peets Coffee, especially at holiday time. Each kugel serves 6 to 8 people and sells for $15.99. Schillings kitchen and products are certified by Vaad Hakashrus of Northern California.... | |

| | | Place for 'music, art, coffee' in East End | | Posted Saturday, December 30, 2006 2:49:54 PM by Blog57 Team | | East End residents and neighborhood artists Lupe and Sidonie Olivarez got tired of driving to other parts of the city to find a comfortable retreat in an artsy coffee house, so they decided to open their own. Bohemeo's, with its bright orange and pink facade and sign that says "music, art, coffee" is a new business twist in a neighborhood where those three elements haven't traditionally mixed. "I wanted this to be an island, a headquarters for artists in this part of town," said Lupe Olivarez, 47. Since it opened, the cafe which has indoor and outdoor stages, wireless Internet, a patio area and original art hanging from the walls has been "a lot of things to a lot of different people at different times of the day." A place to stop byOlder, longtime area residents of the predominantly Mexican and Mexican-Amer- ican neighborhood have ventured in to enjoy an afternoon coffee.... | |

| | | Pencil This In: 21 more days of 365 days of plays | | Posted Sunday, November 19, 2006 12:49:22 PM by Blog57 Team | | *It should be noted that while the festival includes 365 days, it does not mean that there is one play each day. The rules let theatre companies choose to do the plays all in one night or over a few. To that end, Open Fist chose to present their 7 plays a few times because they are just that cool. | | | UH med students treat homeless' social health | | Posted Tuesday, November 14, 2006 11:01:58 AM by Blog57 Team | | Alana Sasaki and several other volunteers recently served 100 cups of coffee during the grand opening of Coffee Hour, a new social program to help residents living at the Next Step shelter in Kakaako. "I think that brightens their day a little that they know someone cares about them," she said. The warm cups of coffee and freshly baked cakes drew several residents last week to Sasaki, 26, and the group of about 15 University of Hawaii medical students working with the program. Coffee Hour, the brainchild of Sasaki, a first-year medical student at the UH John A. Burns School of Medicine, is held at the shelter Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Volunteers serve coffee, tea, hot cocoa, baked goods and fruit. They also help with job applications, resumes and interviewing skills.... | |

| | | Victory patrons, employees recall restaurant's past | | Posted Sunday, November 12, 2006 10:50:13 PM by Blog57 Team | | Tony Smith remembers busing tables at the Victory Restaurant in high school, lines out the door on Sundays and, of course, chicken and waffles. His father, Bernard Smith, opened the famed restaurant on Frederick Street in January 1942. Smith sold the business in 1970 to his nephew, Clair Smith, who eventually sold it to his three sons. "My father had the theory, serve good food at good prices and the business part would take care of itself," Tony Smith said. And that theory survived for 64 years. But now the Hanover landmark, located on Carlisle Street, stands empty. Closed, according to current owner Andy Lawrence, because "the numbers just didn't work." At the beginning of September, Andy Lawrence decided to cut breakfast from the menu, a choice he said might have had something to do with the closing.... | |

| | | Delicious Meals, Delightful Dining at Ragoot's | | Posted Saturday, November 11, 2006 10:52:48 AM by Blog57 Team | | It's difficult to pigeonhole the new Ragoot's restaurant on Monterey Street in Morgan Hill. Located in the newly renovated building that once housed the Skeels Hotel, Ragoot's is part bistro, part coffee shop and part gourmet restaurant, with a lot of fun and funky touches. My husband and I arrived fairly early on a Saturday evening and many of the tables were already full with happy diners. We were greeted warmly and professionally and asked where we would like to be seated. Ragoot's is one of the few lucky restaurants which has been allowed outside dining and, since it was a nice evening, we chose to dine al fresco. We were seated and given a double-sided menu and wine list. One side of the menu was lunch fare, which included a nice selection of hot and cold sandwiches, salads and several varieties of flatbread pizzaettes.... | |

| | | Good grazing at the Black Sheep | | Posted Thursday, November 09, 2006 10:55:01 PM by Blog57 Team | | The Black Sheep Coffee Cafe in South St. Paul has it right: great coffee, excellent pastries, quick service, wireless access and sense of community. Four months ago, the former Larson's paint store on Southview Boulevard, about a mile east of U.S. 52, became a neighborhood hangout with lots of tables and big leather sofas and chairs set around a roaring fire. The atmosphere is social, prices are reasonable, and the soups, salads, sandwiches and desserts are housemade and filled with flavor. The blackboard menu changes from day to day, but think broccoli soup with Gorgonzola, toasted tuna panini, creme brulee and oatmeal scones with maple icing. The barista not only knows how to make a perfect latte, he also makes a cool leaf design in the foam. Mesa Pizza by the Slice in Dinkytown Minneapolis also gets high marks.... | |

| | | Closing their doors | | Posted Wednesday, November 08, 2006 6:51:45 AM by Blog57 Team | | A few established businesses with local name recognition are closing their doors. Combined, they have conducted nearly 70 years of customer service in Redlands. In recent weeks, Newsworthy bookstore on Cajon Street, Victoria's Dress Shop on State Street and Toscana Bistro on Fifth Street have shuttered their doors. A few others have quietly opened up without much fanfare, including Augie's Coffee House on Oct. 30 in the old Toscana Bistro, and Theron's Frozen Custard on Barton Road in the middle of October. For now, the Daily Facts highlights three businesses as they say goodbye to 70 years' worth of business in the community. Jazz & Java Redlands' most-recognized coffeehouse opened in January 1994 on Orange Street at the old .... | |
